What you study
A Bachelor of Applied Management is the practical management degree. You study leadership, operations, human resources, marketing, accounting for managers and project management, usually taught through workplace scenarios rather than theory. Many programmes let you specialise in an area such as marketing, human resources or supply chain in the later years. Applied is the operative word: assessment tends to be projects and reports rather than examinations.

Does the Bachelor of Applied Management lead to residence in New Zealand?
Working here after you graduate
This is a degree at Level 7, so graduates can apply for a post-study work visa of up to three years and work in any job, anywhere in New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand only restricts what you may work in for non-degree qualifications at Level 7 and below, which does not apply here.
Points towards residence
The Skilled Migrant Category is a threshold of six points, not a score to maximise: once you reach six, more points earn nothing. A New Zealand bachelor's degree is worth 5 points, so one year of skilled work in New Zealand takes you to the 6 needed.
A qualification earned in New Zealand is worth more than the same level earned overseas, which is one of the few concrete advantages of studying here rather than at home.
The Green List
Team leader and operations management roles do not appear on the Green List in either tier. That closes the straight to residence route rather than the Skilled Migrant Category one, which is what most graduates in this field use.

Can I specialise within applied management?
Most programmes offer a specialisation in the later years, commonly marketing, human resources, supply chain or accounting. It changes the roles you are competitive for rather than the level of the qualification, so your Skilled Migrant Category points are the same either way.
Can I work anywhere in New Zealand after this degree?
Yes. A Level 7 degree qualifies you for a post-study work visa of up to three years with no restriction on the job or the location. Immigration New Zealand only restricts the field of work where the qualification is a non-degree one at Level 7 or below.
Is applied management respected by New Zealand employers?
It is an NZQA-approved Level 7 degree, the same level as any other bachelor's degree, and the project-based assessment gives you work to show at interview. Employers in operations and retail management hire from these programmes regularly.
